action

The alchemists have made a sensational invention, celluloid or octo-cellulose, a highly flammable material that can be painted and with a crank device transports moving images onto a canvas. Not that this discovery really grew on its crap. An ancient demon called the Entertainment Industry has re-entered the Discworld universe due to human error, and is looking for new victims. Many citizens of Ankh-Morpork are suddenly drawn, magically, to a barren piece of desert called Holy Wood , where the alchemists are making films.

Victor, a student from the Invisible University , ends up there, as does the young woman named Ginger. With the strip blown away with the wind! the two become movie stars overnight. Horrible beings from the dungeon dimensions invade reality through the screen and try to stabilize themselves in the library of the Invisible University. A final fight is on. Victor uses the magic of Holy Wood and turns it against the monstrous creatures. Finally, Oswald (or Oscar ), the golden guardian of the place, resumes his duties and banishes the uninvited ghosts into unreality.
