Bright Bards (Original Title: Men at Arms ) is a novel by Terry Pratchett from 1993. It is the fifteenth Discworld novel . The action takes place in Ankh-Morpork. Helle Bards is the second book in the history of the city watch, so the watch is the focus.

The incident with the dragon on guard! Guards! upgraded the Ankh-Morpork Night Watch . It is growing and recruiting new recruits to represent as many of the city's ethnic minorities as possible. A troll, a woman and a dwarf are the first aspirants for the new jobs. These are the later sergeants Angua and Detritus , who are introduced as recruits, and the dwarf Knuddel.

Strange murders are happening in the city. With the prototype of a weapon invented by Leonard von Quirm , the "Gfähr", large holes are made in people. After being stolen from the Assassins Guild Museum, this weapon seems to have a life of its own. At the wedding ceremony of Commander Mumm and Lady Käsedick , the patrician fell victim to the Gfähr with a shot in the leg. After this attack, the guard succeeds in catching the assassin and even a wedding takes place.
