Lorenz Seidler

Lorenz Seidler , known as eSeL (* 1974 in Vienna ), is an Austrian artist , curator , photographer and communicator .

Life

Seidler studied art history and philosophy at the University of Vienna (diploma thesis Image, Structure & Strategy in Thinking by Gilles Deleuze ). In 1999 he founded the platform Art eSeL.at . From 2009 to 2013 Seidler worked as a lecturer at the University of Applied Arts Vienna , Department of Digital Art , under Virgil Widrich and Ruth Schnell . In 2011 he installed the eSeL REZEPTION, an art information office in the MuseumsQuartier Wien .

In 2016 Lorenz Seidler worked as curator of the exhibition "Scandal Normal" in the Open Culture House OK Linz . In addition, his works and documentations of the Austrian art world were shown in the solo exhibitions "The eSeL Collection" in the Essl Museum (2016) and in the "Photo Salon Seidler" in the Christine König Gallery (2015).

Lorenz “eSeL” Seidler has been documenting, photographing, collecting, moderating and commenting on the art scene in Vienna since 1998 .

He was most recently described as an art flaneur, art communicator and networker, yes as an art researcher, knowledge producer and "seismograph" (Karlheinz Essl). Seidler [...] sees himself as an "aesthetic way of life" that switches between roles: a photographic documentarist of the scene, curator or operator of the (appointment) platform eSeL.at, whose newsletter always contains a selected, pointed photo series by Seidler.

He initially communicated his observations via “Radio eSeL. The broadcast with the sheep ”on the free Viennese radio station Orange 94.0 . Seidler's website www.esel.at is one of the first art blogs in Austria and the central information service for art in Vienna and the surrounding area. Via the weekly newsletter "eSeL Mehl" and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, vimeo), eSeL disseminates information from the art scene, announcements, tenders, photo and video documentation as well as personal recommendations and comments (see "eSeL SHOW - Ein irregular video format for the purpose of eSeL consolidation of knowledge ”).

The “eSeL RECEPTION” in the MuseumsQuartier has been adding an “analog” information portal as a supervised information office with exhibition and workshop space to www.esel.at since 2011. In addition to building up-to-date infrastructure for information, collaboration and communication, art projects by eSeL (exhibitions, performances and interventions) in public and digital space question the current conditions of contemporary art at the interface with new media cultures.
