Lorenz Stephani

Lorenz Stephani , also: Laurentius Stephani (born March 13, 1588 in Greifswald ; † November 11, 1657 in Sternberg ) was a German lawyer and legal scholar.

Lorenz Stephani was a son of the Greifswald law professor Joachim Stephani (1544–1623) and Barbara, geb. Ribow. He studied law in Rostock , was in Heidelberg for doctor of law doctorate and was temporarily associate professor at the University of Rostock . Duke Johann Albrecht II appointed him in 1614 as a judicial advisor to Güstrow , where two years later he became an assessor at the Mecklenburg-Güstrow Regional Court . In 1623 he became a full professor of law in Rostock. In 1636 he went back to Güstrow to work there as the office director for 15 years. From 1651 until his death he was vice-president of the district court in Sternberg.

Lorenz Stephani was married to Anna, a daughter of the Mecklenburg legal scholar Ernst Cothmann . The two had four daughters and one son. The daughter Elisabeth Stephani (1620–1690) was married in 1643 to the Rostock legal scholar Heinrich Rahn (1601–1662).
