Loss mer singe ( Kölsch for Let's sing ) is an alternative Cologne carnival association that has dedicated itself to preserving Cologne's culture and maintaining the unique Cologne song culture. With an "introductory tour", which usually begins in January and ends on Carnival Friday and now takes place in almost 40 Cologne pubs , the association presents what is believed to be the best new releases in Cologne music. In addition, the association participates in many other events - spread over the year - and provides a platform for many newcomers with meetings, casting and contests.

history

In 1999 the idea arose in a kitchen-living room in Nippes, where the inventor of the sing-along initiative, Georg Hinz , wanted to make friends and acquaintances fit for the carnival session . With the chorus texts on a piece of paper, the presumably best new presentations of the session were played with a few introductory words. The concept: Sing along, celebrate, vote, join in - that is essentially "Loss mer singe". Nothing has changed to this day.

Since the first public warm-up event in the Lapidarium am Eigelstein in 2001, the volunteer “Loss mer singe” team has been moving through a number of pubs that is growing year after year. At the beginning of 2009, the comrades-in-arms of "Loss mer singe" formed a registered association .

The warm-up tour

The sing-along tour through more than 35 Cologne pubs with a guest performance in the “Permanent Representation” in Berlin is the heart of the sing-along initiative. Every year Loss mer singe presents the latest new releases with notes of text to help you sing along. The twenty titles are found through a sophisticated pre-selection system. In the counting breaks, during which thousands of ballot papers are now evaluated, there are Cologne oldies to rediscover before the bar hits of the evening can be announced. At the end of the warm-up tour, the hit of the session will be chosen.

"Loss mer singe - Op Jöck" developed over time as an offshoot and meanwhile plays in over 30 pubs in the Cologne area, Hamburg and Munich.

The session

Once a year the association celebrates the big Loss Mer Singe meeting. Here, too, care is taken to give (still) unknown performers the same opportunities as the greats of the Cologne Carnival. These new talents are searched for via live casting. The loss-mer-singing session deliberately sets itself apart from traditional sessions.

The cabaret artists Fatih Cevikkollu, Dave Davis and Johan König celebrated their debut at Loss meringe at the Cologne Carnival.

In the course of the years, in addition to the warm-up tour, new events have arisen: For example, the three Bläck Fööss , Hartmut, Kafi and Bömmel played the first “Loss mer singe” singing concert in the Lapidarium pub in 2002.

The party at the beginning of the session on Carnival Friday is now a must among Loss mer Singe connoisseurs.

With the Loss mer Singe-Casting and, since 2017, the Kölsche Musik Bänd Contest, newcomers inside and outside of the carnival should be given a platform. The events have served bands such as Kasalla, Cat Ballou, Querbeat, Stadtrand and many more as a stepping stone into the Cologne music scene.

With events in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Mallorca, the “Missionwerk” helped to create more sing-along culture in the Fastelovend exiled Rhinelanders in their loneliness.

And with the Christmas singing at the Christmas market on the Alter Markt, Loss mer singe wants to liven up Cologne's song culture.

To Loss mer singe a network with activities and events (partly also by club members) has been created to honor the Cologne song culture. For example the Christmas event "Himmel & Ääd" or the Christmas singing at the Christmas market on the Domplatte with Stefan Knittler .

engagement

Since October 2010, as part of the school project, a sixth or seventh year of a Cologne school has been given a project week under the motto "Kölle es ...". During this week, professionals from various artistic fields work with the students on a revue that will be performed at the end of the project week. The Loss mer singe association assumes all costs.

In addition to its commitment to the Cologne song culture and the cultivation of customs, “Loss mer singe” supports many projects and non-profit associations. Since 2016, the income from some events under the motto "Sing for jod" has been used for completely charitable purposes (in 2019 well over 10,000 euros for the projects "Sea-Watch" - sea rescue for refugees, "Eckhart Busch Foundation" - Projects for the acceptance of mentally ill people, "Welcome to Ehrenfeld" - help and orientation for refugees and the carnival association "Jecke Öhrcher", for people with and without hearing impairment) donated. Above all, the association ensures that local initiatives, if possible even based in the Veedel , are supported with the entrance fees.

Until 2012, the income from the “Loss mer singe” summer festival was used to support social work with young people in Haus Miriam.

With the “Loss mer singe” casting and the associated sponsorship award for an applicant, the association supports new talents in Cologne's carnival.

Loss mer singe also participates in the alliance “Cologne is standing across” and supports several protests against right-wing extremism and xenophobia .

Awards

In 2014 Loss mer singe was honored by the Association of Friends and Patrons of Cologne Customs with the award of its civil order.

In 2017 Georg Hinz and Helmut Frangenberg received the Rheinlandtaler on behalf of the association .
