Lothar Mannewitz

Lothar Mannewitz (born May 1, 1930 in Hörsingen ; † August 24, 2004 in Rostock ) was a German painter, graphic artist, restorer and designer of glass windows.

Life

After attending school, Lothar Mannewitz completed an apprenticeship in painting from 1945 to 1950 and trained as a restorer in the company of his father Fritz Mannewitz. From 1952 to 1954 he studied painting at the Berlin-Charlottenburg School of Art . In 1954 he married the painter Mechthild Schlenger and moved to Rostock. There Lothar Mannewitz worked as a freelance restorer, mainly on art and architectural monuments in Mecklenburg and Brandenburg. He was active in around 200 churches. Another field of activity of his was the building-related art. Mannewitz created numerous glass windows in lead and concrete glass technology in churches and secular buildings in Rostock, Berlin and other places in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg.

Lothar Mannewitz had three children. His son Marcus Mannewitz also works as a restorer, the daughter Anna Mannewitz is a painter.
