Louis Perry "Louie" Anderson (March 24, 1953 in Saint Paul , MinnesotaJanuary 21, 2022 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American comedian , actor and author .

life and career

Anderson became known as a stand-up comedian in the 1980s, and his self-deprecating humor (about his weight, for example) won him Henry Youngman and Johnny Carson , among others, as early sponsors. He regularly toured the United States with his shows for the next four decades, including regularly having his own stand-up show called Louie: Larger Than Life in Las Vegas between 2003 and 2012 .

In Hollywood, he began appearing in small supporting roles in Hollywood films from 1984, for example as the flower deliveryman in John Hughes ' Ferris macht blau . He is perhaps best known in German-speaking countries for his role as Maurice, a fast-food restaurant worker, in the comedy The Prince of Zamunda (1988), opposite Eddie Murphy . He also appeared in the sequel The Prince from Zamunda 2 in 2021. From 2016 to 2019 he played the female role of Christine Baskets , mother of the main character played by Zach Galifianakis , in the series Baskets . He was nominated three times for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards for this performance , winning the award in 2016.

Anderson is also an author and has written four books. He was also the inspiration for the tragi-comic animated series Life with Louie , which is autobiographically based on his own childhood, which was also negatively influenced by his alcoholic father. The animated series running between 1994 and 1998 made him known to a wider audience in English-speaking countries; he was the screenwriter and voiced the role of Louie's father. In 1996, he received his own sitcom , The Louie Show , which only lasted five episodes. As a host, he hosted the game show Family Feud from 1999 to 2002 .

Anderson died of complications from cancer in January 2022 at the age of 68.
