Louis Meyer (politician, 1802)
Louis Meyer (born August 23, 1802 in Burgdorf ; † February 8, 1889 in Hanover ) was a German businessman and politician . In 1848 he campaigned for freedom of the press in the Kingdom of Hanover .
Life
Louis Meyer ran the tobacco and cigar business L. Meyer & Co. together with his brother .
1843 Meyer became the District Director and 1846 for civil head selected. In the following year, in 1847, he became the spokesman for the mayor council (re-elected in 1854 and 1860), for which on March 17, 1848, the year of the March Revolution - together with the city director Evers - he presented a petition to King Ernst August of Hanover with regard to the city council Colleges wanted freedom of the press. In the same year Meyer was appointed senator for life.
From 1849 to 1854 the Senator was a member of the Second Chamber of the Hanoverian Estates Assembly ; as such, he voted in 1853 against the entry of the Kingdom of Hanover into the Prussian- dominated German Customs Union .
Senator Louis Meyer had been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Hannoversche Bank since 1869 .
