The Celestyal Olympia is a cruise ship of the Cypriot Celestyal Cruises . The ship entered service in 1982 as the Song of America for Royal Caribbean International .

Planning and construction

The Song of America was built under shipyard number 431 near Wärtsilä in Helsinki and launched on November 26, 1981.

On December 5, 1982, the Song of America completed her maiden voyage and was henceforth used for cruises in the Caribbean .

In May 1998, the Song of America was sold to Sun Cruises for $ 94.5 million . In contrast to the ships previously sold, Royal Caribbean International did not have the Viking Crown Lounge integrated in the chimney removed. However, Royal Caribbean International chartered the ship back until March 1999.

In July 2004 the ship was sold to Louis Cruise Line . However, Sun Cruises chartered the ship back until May 2005. Louis Cruise Line then chartered the ship to Thomson Cruises . Louis Cruise Line has been operating the ship since 2012 , initially under the name Louis Olympia .

During the 2014 Winter Olympics , the ship was used as a hotel ship in Sochi .

In November 2014, the ship was renamed Celestyal Olympia .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by four eight-cylinder - diesel engines powered the manufacturer Sulzer Wärtsilä (type: 8zł 40/48). The motors act via speed reduction gear on two controllable pitch propellers .

Five diesel generators from the manufacturer Wärtsilä (type: 6R 32) are available for the power supply. An emergency generator was also installed.
