Louis Salica (born November 16, 1912 in Brooklyn , New York City , † January 30, 2002 ) was an American boxer .

Amateur career

In the amateurs, Salica competed in the flyweight division . In this weight class he won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games and the respective gold medal at the US championships , the Intercity Golden Gloves and the New York Golden Gloves in Los Angeles in 1932 .

Professional career

As a professional, he boxed bantamweight and began his career in 1932. He went undefeated in his first 16 fights. On August 26, 1935 he fought against Sixto Escobar for the world championship belt of the NBA and NYSAC associations and won by majority decision. However, he lost the title in his first title defense in November of the same year to Escobar in a direct rematch on points.

On November 17, 1939 he was able to win the NYSAC world championship belt again when he defeated the until then undefeated Tony Olivera on points. In addition, on September 24 of the following year, he won the NBA world title for the second time with a unanimous victory over Georgie Pace .

On August 7, 1942, he lost these two belts to his compatriot Manuel Ortiz by a unanimous decision of the judge. His last fight, which he lost to Harry Jeffra in Baltimore by unanimous decision, took place on March 27, 1944.
