The heavyweight, bald mime played dignitaries, upper-class citizens, entrepreneurs, headmasters, prison directors, judges, mayors, bishops and people of power of all kinds. In one of his last film roles, he played the French Justice Minister Joseph, who was very courteous towards the German occupiers, in the political thriller Sonder-Tribunal Barthélémy.

His daughter Françoise Seigner also took up the acting profession, the actresses Emmanuelle Seigner and Mathilde Seigner are his granddaughters.
