Luís Condor

Luís Kondor SVD (born June 22, 1928 in Csikvánd , Győr-Moson-Sopron County , Hungary ; † October 28, 2009 in Fátima , Portugal ) was a Hungarian Roman Catholic religious at the pilgrimage site of Fátima.

Life

In 1940 Luís Kondor attended the boarding school of the Benedictine Abbey of Győr , later the boarding school of the Cistercians in Székesfehérvár . He joined the Congregation of Steyler Missionaries in 1946 and took his first vows. From 1948 he studied philosophy in Hungary, but had to flee to Austria from the communist persecution of Christians by order of the superior general of his order, first to Mödling and later to Salzburg . In 1950 he was ordered by his order to St. Augustin near Bonn , where he completed his theological training. He was ordained a priest on August 28, 1953 in the St. Augustine Mission House of his order . From 1954 he was Vice-Prefect in the religious seminary in Fátima, Portugal .

On July 8, 1956, he first met the nun Lúcia dos Santos . In 1960 he was appointed by Pope John XXIII. appointed Vice Postulator (Postulator extra urbem) in the beatification proceedings of the children of Fátima, Jacinta and Francisco Marto . The procedure was completed in 2000 by Pope John Paul II .

Kondor was recognized worldwide as an expert on the apparition of Fátima. Since 1963 he has published a newsletter in seven languages ​​which reported on the life of the two shepherds and the progress of the beatification. With the work "Memories of Sister Lucia" he presented a noteworthy work on Fátima. He was also committed to the Blue Army of Mary . His office “Secretariado dos Pastorinhos”, established in 1963, became known as the “Shepherd Children’s Office”.

On January 18, 2006, he was appointed Commander of the Portuguese Order of Merit Ordem do Mérito by the Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio .

Luís Kondor died of complications from cancer and was buried in the Fátima cemetery.
