Luc Alfons De Hovre

Luc Alfons De Hovre SJ (born February 27, 1926 in Nederbrakel , Belgium ; † June 4, 2009 in Leuven , Belgium) was auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Mechlin-Brussels .

Life

Luc Alfons De Hovre joined the religious order of the Society of Jesus in Drongen and was ordained a priest on May 10, 1958 . From 1959 to 1964 he was prefect of the Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels, then rector and director of the Jesuit Sint-Jozefcollege in Turnhout . In 1971 he was appointed novice master of the Flemish Province of the Jesuits, in September 1975 he was appointed Provincial Superior of the Flemish Jesuits and Chairman of the Committee of the European Jesuit Provinces. From 1982 to 2002 he was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Domnach Sechnaill in 1982 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels. He received his episcopal ordination on March 28, 1982, the Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels and later Cardinal Godfried Danneels ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Jaipur , Philip Ekka SJ, Paul Constant Schoenmaekers , Auxiliary Bishop in Mechelen-Brussels, Leo-Karel Jozef De Kesel , Auxiliary Bishop in Ghent , and Jean-Baptiste Musty , Auxiliary Bishop in Namur . He was a member of the Belgian Bishops' Conference .

In 2002 Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
