Luca Turilli's Rhapsody (also LTRhapsody , LT's Rhapsody or simply Rhapsody ) was an Italian Symphonic - power metal - band .
The group was a spin-off from Rhapsody of Fire (formerly Rhapsody ) and was founded in 2011 by its former members Luca Turilli , Patrice Guers, Alex Holzwarth and live musician Dominique Leurquin. In 2018 she joined the new formation Turilli / Lione Rhapsody .
history
The beginning with Rhapsody
In 1993 Luca Turilli founded the symphonic power metal band Rhapsody (later renamed Rhapsody of Fire ) together with Alex Staropoli, which debuted in 1997 with the album Legendary Tales . The band's own genre Film Score Metal developed . All other albums were based on a fantasy saga written by Turilli, which ended in 2011 with the album From Chaos to Eternity .
The separation
In August 2011, Turilli and Staropoli announced that they would end their fifteen-year collaboration on a friendly basis, as the working atmosphere no longer corresponds to that of the past. However, they decided that both bands should keep the Rhapsody name in order to benefit from its reputation. Staropoli continued to commit to Rhapsody of Fire , while Turilli used the band name Luca Turilli's Rhapsody . With the split, Turilli ended his solo career so that he could concentrate fully on the new band.
Bassist Patrice Guers and live guitarist Dominique Leurquin also went with Luca Turilli; Singer Fabio Lione and guitarist Tom Hess stayed with Alex Staropoli. The drummer Alex Holzwarth wanted to work in both bands. The Italian Alessandro Conti finally joined the band as the new singer; he had completed his tenor studies at Corale Lirica Rossini (like Luciano Pavarotti ).
The first album
Luca Turilli immediately began composing the new album Ascending to Infinity , which, taking into account the previous albums with Alex Staropoli, is the eleventh album. The album was produced by Turilli himself, the recordings of the drums, bass and vocals took place in Sebastian Roeder's Backyard Studios in Kempten . Christoph Stickel from Munich's MSM Studios was responsible for the mastering . All orchestral arrangements are by Luca Turilli. The new style is characterized by a special emphasis on elements from the film music , which is why the new genre name Cinematic Metal was introduced. Accordingly, the band's motto is “Born to sound cinematic!”. In contrast to Rhapsody of Fire, there will be no common thread connecting the individual albums; the individual songs are only loosely related to one another. Turilli often uses symbolism in the texts.
Drummer Alex Holzwarth found that it would be impossible for him to play in two bands at the same time. Therefore, after completing the album, he decided to only work on Rhapsody of Fire . Luca Turilli was joined by Alex Landenburg ( Mekong Delta , ex- Axxis ) as the new drummer .
Ascending to Infinity was released on June 22, 2012; on November 10th the European tour started in Charleroi, Belgium . Both the new songs and songs from the Luca Turilli solo albums and those from the old Rhapsody albums were played. The tour was advertised as a "Cinematic World Tour", the band promised a "multivisual" show in this sense. The Finn Mikko Härkin (formerly Sonata Arctica ) was involved as an additional live keyboard player . Guitarist Dominique Leurquin was unable to take part in the tour due to a serious injury to his hand from a circular saw , so his parts were replaced with samples .
Second album
On January 24, 2013 it was announced that the band would have a long-term collaboration with the Czech conductor Petr Pololanik (who had already produced the album Symphony of Enchanted Lands II - The Dark Secret with Rhapsody of Fire in 2004 ) and his more than 100-person chapels Orchestra & Choir . The band promised "many artistic surprises and special live and studio events" for the following months. It was also mentioned that the second studio album would be released in late spring 2014, in collaboration with Pololanik and his orchestra / choir. On November 6, 2013, the band announced the working title of the new album: Prometheus - Symphonia Ignis Divinus . Initially, the release of the album was set for June / July 2014, but it wasn't until March 2015 that the final date of June 19, 2015 was announced. The single Rosenkreuz (The Rose and the Cross) was released on April 24th . In 2016 the album was reissued in a Dolby Atmos mix, together with the live double album Cinematic and Live .
Reunion tour and new band
After Fabio Lione and Alex Holzwarth left Rhapsody of Fire at the same time at the end of 2016, Luca Turilli announced a short-term reunion in 2017 on the occasion of the band's 20th anniversary. The cast for this 20th Anniversary Farewell Tour included Turilli, Lione and Holzwarth as well as Patrice Guers and Dominique Leurquin, referring to the band's line-up between 2004 and 2011; Founding member Alex Staropoli stayed away from the reunion. After the tour ended, Turilli announced in mid-2018 that the band would be indefinitely and that they would devote themselves to new projects. At the end of the year he finally founded the new group Turilli / Lione Rhapsody , consisting of the band members of the Reunion tour; The first album was Zero Gravity (Rebirth and Evolution) at the end of June 2019.
