Lucas José Estrada Abadía

Lucas José Estrada Abadia (also: Lucas Estrada; born May 8, 1938 in La Unión (Valle de Cauca) , Colombia ; † August 24, 1981 in New York City , United States ) was a Colombian composer.

Life

Lucas José Estrada Abadia studied at an early age at the Conservatorio Antonio María Valencia in Cali . From 1956 to 1963 he studied at the Conservatorio Nacional in Bogotá . He studied piano with Lucía Peréz, art history and musical form with Andrés Pardo Tovar , counterpoint with Fabio González Zuleta and composition with Roberto Pineda Duque . In 1964 he went to New York City to study with Carlos Suriñach (1915–1997) and Julián Borbon . He also studied at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena with Franco Donatoni and Luigi Dallapiccola .

Piano music

  • Tres piezas para piano. I Allegrocon brio II Andante moderato III Allegro vivace ( Bambuco ). The pieces were written between 1962 and 1964 in Bogotá and New York City. There are two known manuscripts with different tempo markings. The first time they were performed in their entirety by Rolf Daniel Kolz probably in 1975 at a concert of the composers' circle of the Turtle Bay School of Music in New York. In Europe, the last piece, Bambuco, was performed several times by Francesca Maggini, including in Rhodes and Florence.
