Lucius D. Clay Medal

The Lucius D. Clay Medal has been awarded annually on German-American Day by the Association of German-American Clubs since 1980 . The award is given to personalities from Germany and the USA who have made a special contribution to maintaining German-American friendship . The award is named after General Lucius D. Clay , the former military governor of the US occupation zone in Germany and "father" of the Berlin Airlift . The round medal with the portrait and name of the namesake is silver and bears the inscription "For outstanding contributions to German-American friendship".
