The Ludgerusschule is a state, partially bound elementary and secondary school in Rhede (Ems) ( Emsland district , Lower Saxony ), which was founded in 1558. The school authority is the municipality of Rhede (Ems).

Surname

The Ludgerus School has been named after Saint Liudger (744–809) since 1959 . Liudger was a missionary , founder of the Werden monastery and the Helmstedter St. Ludgeri monastery , Werden monastery director and first bishop of Münster . Based on his life's work and the school's basic European orientation, the school has had the "Building bridges, creating foundations" logo since 2008. Since 2005 the school has been holding a "Ludgerustag" in honor of St. Liudger, during which socially committed students receive the "Ludgerustaler".

history

The first mentions of a school in Rhede can be found in old church council accounts and date from 1558.

Mission statement and logo of the school

Around 1900 "the Rheder Kirchdorfschule was a parish and sexton school; the 'sexton teacher' at that time was first and foremost a sexton and then a teacher. In 1929 the two offices were finally separated from each other". In 1969 the establishment of a primary and secondary school level was established. In 1989 the first exchange of lessons with the Netherlands took place, which was to be formative for further cooperation. In 1990 a school kindergarten was introduced and in 1995 the Ludgerusschule received the approval to carry out the 10th school year at secondary schools, which in 2004 the establishment of the Realschule followed. As part of the European orientation, the pilot project "Cross-border language acquisition" with the DOLLARD COLLEGE from the Netherlands was approved until 2012 by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education. In the same year the voluntary participation in the pilot project “self-reliant school” in Emsland followed. To secure the school location in Rhede, the Ludgerus School became a partially integrated all - day school in 2005 . In 2006 she joined the cooperation network for gifted students in the catchment area of the Papenburg grammar school .

school-building

"Probably the first building that was used for school was at the old Rheder church. In 1663 a house near the church wall at the old church is mentioned, which was assigned to the sexton and schoolmaster 'herman Berens Dalensi'. This house had to be demolished in 1740 because it was in very bad condition. It is not possible to determine which building served as a school in the next few years. Although a 'much too small, dilapidated old school' is mentioned later, the location is not known. "

In 1945 the school burned down to the ground. Schools only resumed in the old sacristy in 1946, until a school building was opened in 1950. In 1959, 1963, 1965 and 1970 extensions were built. In 1988 the school received an open-plan gymnasium and further renovations of the school building were carried out in 1991–1993 before the infrastructural development was provisionally completed in 2008 with the construction of the “creative center + canteen” for the all-day school and the renovation of the scientific rooms. The Ludgerus School has a total of 22 general classrooms and 18 specialist rooms.

Pedagogical orientation, offers

Dutch

NTC school

The European orientation of the school has a special place in the classroom. Against this background and because of the school's geographical location on the Dutch border, learning the Dutch language plays an important role. A school partnership between the municipality of Rhede and the neighboring municipality of Bellingwedde in the Netherlands has existed since 1979. In 1989, for the tenth anniversary of its existence, the first model experiment was started: “Teaching across national borders”. Since then there has been regular exchange in various forms between the Ludgerus School and what is now Dollard College in Bellingwedde. In October 2007 the Ludgerus School became an NTC School. NTC means Nederlandse Taal en Cultuur. (Lessons in the Dutch language and culture).

Chess study

The school has carried out a chess study to improve the school grades of students who participate permanently in a chess study group. The evaluation began on February 1, 2006 and had a minimum duration of six years. The school's chess working group has existed since February 2006. For the successful work of this working group, the school was awarded the German Chess School seal of quality in February 2009 as the sixth school in Germany by the German Chess Federation.

School social work

With the introduction of the all-day school , the Ludgerusschule received a school social worker as part of the profiling of the secondary schools. The content of the school's social pedagogical work is a. to facilitate the transition from secondary school to vocational training for students. The following fields of work are also part of the tasks of school social work: Advice and individual help / Socio-educational group work and projects / Networking and community work / School development and innovation / Parental work / Prevention of violence
