Strong school. Germany's best schools that lead to qualification for training ( Hauptschulpreis until 2007 ) is a school competition in Germany with a cross-border network. All types of general education at lower secondary level that lead to training can take part. The program is run by the non-profit Hertie Foundation , the Federal Employment Agency , the Federation of German Employers' Associations and the Deutsche Bank Foundation .

competition

The competition is announced every two years. The next application period starts on March 9th and ends on May 4th, 2016. All types of general education at lower secondary level that lead to vocational training can participate. In addition to Hauptschule and Realschulen, these are also (partially) integrated forms of school (comprehensive schools, middle schools, high schools, secondary schools, etc.) and special needs schools. Schools can apply online. The focus is on the school concept, the offers for professional orientation, the promotion of the training maturity and the focus on the follow-up perspective of the students. In addition to technical skills, the school's promotion of methodological, personal and social skills is also considered, as well as the specific framework conditions under which the schools work.

An independent competition jury with representatives of the partners and other experts from education, business and science evaluates the submitted applications and visits a large number of local schools. The jury looks at the entire school concept and takes into account the respective framework conditions of the individual school. First of all, it determines the best schools in each state. The winners receive 5,000 euros (1st prize), 3,500 euros (2nd prize) and 2,000 euros (3rd prize). The national winners will be determined from among the 16 first-placed state winners. They receive 15,000 euros (1st prize), 10,000 euros (2nd prize) and 5,000 euros (3rd prize) and will be honored by the Federal President at a ceremony . In addition, a sponsorship award "Welcoming refugees" in the amount of 3,000 euros will be awarded. The competition will be announced for the tenth time in 2016/2017.

network

All schools that receive an award in the context of the competition belong to the "Strong School" network for four years. The network is a place of learning for teaching, organizational and personnel development, in which around 200 winning schools from all 16 federal states are currently learning from and with one another. Within the network, teachers can take part in accredited training courses and conferences, exchange ideas nationwide and receive financial support for innovative projects. The network includes offers such as network conferences, training courses on teaching materials, workshop discussions on current school topics such as B. Inclusion and "school as a place of communication", advanced training at state and federal winning schools and financial "innovation funding for schools".

Award winners

The national winners are selected by a special jury from the 16 state winners of the federal states.
