Hermann Vinke

Hermann Vinke (* 1940 in Rhede an der Ems ) is a German radio - journalist and nonfiction author .

Life

The son of a builder grew up in a large Catholic family with eight siblings in rural Emsland. The eldest brother was practically killed in front of his eyes during the Allied invasion, and his father's hand was shot in the war. The young Vinke, who was particularly interested in history and philosophy at school, did an internship at the Papenbuger Ems-Zeitung , became an editor for various daily newspapers and later for the NDR . In between he completed a degree in history and sociology .

For five years (1981–1986) Vinke was ARD's Far East correspondent in Tokyo , and from 1986–1990 North America correspondent in Washington. For one year he took over the chief post as head of the ARD studio in Berlin / East Germany from 1990 to 1991. For another eight years he was appointed program director for radio at Radio Bremen from 1992–2000 . Since 2000 he has been the ARD correspondent for Eastern Europe / Baltic States.
