history

Völlen was founded around the year 700 and was first mentioned in a document in 1177. From 1250, stone houses made of baked bricks were built instead of the clay huts that had been customary up to that point.

After the Second World War , Völlen was part of the Polish zone of occupation . The residents of Völlen were concentrated in the houses on one side of the street, while Poles from the Emsland camps moved into the empty houses on the opposite side of the street.

Until the municipality reform of Lower Saxony on January 1, 1973, Völlen was a separate municipality, which consisted of the places Völlen, Völlenerfehn and Völlenerkönigsfehn . Together with these, it now forms a district within the municipality of Westoverledingen and has its own local council and mayor.

Worth seeing

Today's Evangelical Lutheran Peter and Paul Church was built as a late Gothic brick church at the beginning of the 15th century. The steeple dates from 1559.
