Grotegaste is a place in the municipality of Westoverledingen in the district of Leer in East Frisia .

history

In ancient times, Grotegaste was also called a Halinga guest . Later, according to a bell inscription from 1352, the place was once called Allignara guest .

The current church of St. Johannes Baptist lies on a geest penetration and was built in 1819 in the classicism style.

On January 1, 1973, Grotegaste was incorporated into the new municipality of Westoverledingen.

The town, which was once shaped by agriculture, only has one active farmer in 2019.
