Ludwig Mülheims Theater Prize

The Ludwig-Mülheims-Theaterpreis is a literary prize that is intended to promote the open encounter between religion and the theater landscape and is administered by the Archdiocese of Cologne according to the wishes of its founder .

Characteristic

The Ludwig Mülheims Theater Prize, established in 1984 - with prize money of 25,000 euros, is one of the best endowed in the German-speaking world - goes back to a legacy of the Catholic actor, dramaturge and director Ludwig Mülheim (1906–1988). Archbishop Joseph Cardinal Höffner was a co-founder of this private initiative. Not only materials with Christian drama, but also generally religious drama are awarded.

The board of trustees of the Ludwig Mülheims Theater Prize is made up of personalities from the art and theater scene as well as natural members. The chairman is the pastor of artists in the Archdiocese of Cologne, currently (2020) Prelate Josef Sauerborn.
