Ludwig Carbyn (born February 22, 1871 in Krefeld , † October 13, 1910 in Eschweiler ) was an Eschweiler local politician and founder of a housing association .

The doctor of law is considered the mayor who "made the hamlet of Eschweiler a town". From October 17, 1901 until his election as mayor on February 12, 1902, he was an alderman of the city of Eschweiler. He held the mayor's office until the day of his death. During his tenure, important institutions are built like the Municipal High School , the public library, the power company , the waterworks , the sewage treatment plant , the municipal savings bank Eschweiler , the Eschweiler bank , a branch of the Reichsbank in Englerthstraße and the district court Eschweiler . During his term of office, the Hohe Stein is reforested, the botanical garden on Drieschstrasse is set up, the Inde is regulated, the sewer system is introduced and several schools are built.

On April 3, 1902, just three weeks after his election as mayor, Carbyn founds the "Charitable Housing Cooperative". This cooperative built 119 apartments in the Ludwigstrasse / Nothberger Strasse area between 1927 and 1930.

In his honor in Eschweiler in 1925 the “Carbynstraße” at the municipal high school and in 1928 the “Ludwigstraße” in the Patternhof district were named, and in 1950 a monument was erected in the green area west of the valley station .

Carbyn was a member of the Catholic student associations AV Austria Innsbruck , AV Guestfalia Tübingen and KDStV Bavaria Bonn .
