Carl Hettlage (born March 20, 1874 in Paderborn , † June 1, 1935 in Münster ) was a German politician.

Hettlage studied law in Göttingen and Heidelberg from 1893 to 1896 . During his studies in 1893 he became a member of the AV Palatia Göttingen in the CV . After completing his studies, he became a trainee lawyer, an assessor in 1901 and then settled in Essen as a lawyer, where his son Karl Maria Hettlage was born on November 28, 1902 . For health reasons, he gave up his law firm and in 1906 became mayor of the city ​​of Papenburg in the Lower Saxony district of Aschendorf ( now the district of Emsland ).

On February 4, 1911, he became mayor of the city ​​of Eschweiler in the Rhenish district of Aachen ( today Aachen region ). This is where his son went to school. During his tenure, Eschweiler became a garrison town on July 1, 1914, when the 2nd Battalion of Infantry Regiment 161 (10th Rheinisches) moved into the new barracks , the city council decided on the city colors black, yellow and blue, and the administration of BIAG Zukunft von Cologne followed suit Eschweiler, the First World War broke out and the city issued emergency money . On August 31, 1920 he resigned from the mayor's office, was then allowed to move to the unoccupied area through the mediation of the Rhineland Commission and in 1921 was appointed by the Prussian Minister of the Interior to the Upper Government Council of the Upper Presidium of the Province of Westphalia in Münster and later to the Government Vice President. In 1926 he was the provisional district president of the Münster administrative district . His predecessor from 1922 to 1926 was Heinrich Haslinde , his successor from 1926 to 1932 was Rudolf Amelunxen .

In May 1933 he was given leave of absence by the Nazi rulers and retired in December. He died on June 1, 1935.
