Emanuel Friedrich Ludwig Fischer (born January 31, 1828 in Bern ; † May 21, 1907 there ) was a Swiss botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " L.Fisch. "


Life

Ludwig Fischer was born in Bern on January 31, 1828, the son of postal director Gottlieb Ludwig Fischer and Henriette, née von Graffenried . He was a great-grandson of Post Director Gottlieb Fischer . Fischer completed his apprenticeship as a pharmacist in Besigheim , Geneva and at the University of Bern , where he passed the state examination in 1852 . He then studied botany in Jena , Berlin and Zurich , where he received his doctorate in 1852 . He then worked for seven years as a private lecturer at the University of Bern, until he was appointed director of the Botanical Garden and associate professor in 1860 . Most recently he taught as full professor of botany between 1863 and 1897 .

Ludwig Fischer, who married Mathilde Berri, daughter of Melchior Berri and niece of Jacob Burckhardt , in 1860 , died on May 21, 1907 at the age of 79 in Bern. He was the father of Eduard Fischer and the grandfather of Kurt von Fischer and Hermann von Fischer .

Act

Ludwig Fischer was considered a devoted teacher and a good cryptogam researcher , especially in the field of algae , fungi , lichens , mosses and ferns . His identification book Taschenbuch der Flora von Bern from 1855 was edited and expanded by seven editions up to 1903. His contribution to plant geography , the directory of phanerogams and vascular cryptogams of the Bernese Oberland and the area around Thun from 1862, appeared again in 1876 in a greatly expanded version.
