Ludwig Heller (pastor)

Balthasar Ludwig Daniel Heller (born April 25, 1805 in Lübeck ; † June 29, 1878 there ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman .

Life

Ludwig Heller was a son of the master dyer Samuel Friedrich Heller († 1857). He attended the Katharineum in Lübeck until Easter 1826 , where Johann Heinrich Thöl became his friend, and then studied philosophy and Protestant theology . In 1828 he was at the University of Leipzig to Dr. phil. et theol. PhD. He returned to Lübeck, was candidate of the Ministerium and taught at the well candidate school called preparatory school for boys , later Progymnasium Dr. Bussenius . In May 1836 he was appointed preacher at the St. Lorenz Church in Lübeck-Travemünde and on January 28, 1853 its pastor.

Heller was a member of the Society for the Promotion of Charitable Activities ; he became their chronicler and in 1835 founding editor of the (Neue) Lübeckische Blätter . He gave numerous lectures at their meeting evenings on theological, philosophical and historical topics and was made an honorary member of the Society in 1859. In 1847 he was a participant in the German Studies Day . Since 1825 he was a Freemason in the Lübeck Johannisloge Zum Füllhorn . From 1862 to 1865 he was the successor to Ernst Deecke's chairman Meister.

On 17 May 1861 the Theological Faculty awarded him the University of Göttingen the honorary doctorate .

The industrialist Ernst Heller , the historian Johannes Heller and the Indologist Ludwig Heller were his sons.
