Ludwig I. (Teck)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig I of Teck , († 1283 ), Duke of Teck, was a son of Conrad I of Teck and belonged to the Zähringen branch of the Dukes of Teck . He is considered to be the progenitor of the Oberndorf line of the Teck family.

Life

Ludwig's mother is not documented, possibly it was a daughter of Count Hermann von Sulz .

Ludwig I was first mentioned in a document in 1249 at Teck Castle and allowed Teckish servants to make gifts to the Dominican nuns in the Kirchheim monastery. In 1261 Owen is mentioned for the first time in a certificate signed by Ludwig I of his servant Bertold "evil knight" von Owen.

As the owner of the Schenkenlehen of the St. Gallen Monastery and as the Vogt of the Alpirsbach Monastery , numerous activities arose on the upper Neckar in the area around his own property Burg Waseneck with the villages of Altoberndorf, Bochingen , Beffendorf and Waldmössingen. In the middle of the 13th century, Ludwig I founded the town of Oberndorf . In 1272 he gave the Dominican convent in Oberndorf privileges.

In a conciliation document 1251 for the knightly powers in the village of Dornhan , the Tecksche diamond shield was deposited on the certificate seal as the coat of arms of the Dukes of Teck for the first time. In 1276 the city gate to Dornhan is mentioned in a document. The founding of the city of Rosenfeld is also associated with Ludwig I.

Documentary mentions show that Ludwig I took part in King Rudolf von Habsburg's court day on May 12, 1275 in Augsburg together with his brother Konrad .

Ludwig I von Teck died in 1283 and was buried on December 24, 1283 in the Teck crypt in the monastery church in Kirchheim .

Marriage and offspring

The name of his wife is not documented, possibly it was Irmelgard von Baden. This would explain the transition of the former Baden towns of Marbach am Neckar and Lauffen am Neckar into the possession of the Dukes of Teck.
