Ludwig Kern (born January 2, 1902 in Speyer ; † July 7, 1942 at Orel ) was a German sculptor and stonemason.

Live and act

Ludwig Kern was the son of a sculptor, attended secondary school in Speyer and completed an apprenticeship as a stonemason in his father's company, which he completed in 1920 with the journeyman's examination. From 1922 to 1925 Kern studied at the Badische Landeskunstschule Karlsruhe , 1925–1929 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Here was Bernhard Bleeker his teacher, whose style he remained connected life.

In his Palatinate homeland, Kern was a well-known sculptor in the early 1930s who created many war memorials in memory of the First World War . He was drafted into the military himself during World War II and died in July 1942 near Orel, Russia.

One of his works is the war memorial in Waldsee (Palatinate) adorned with a Bavarian lion . He also created the monuments of the First World War in Bad Bergzabern , Böbingen , Deidesheim , Gönnheim , Heiligenstein and Sausenheim . He designed the Speyer fountain at the dish place, and a memorial plaque was placed there even after his death. He made the relief at the Jakobsbrunnen Speyer.
