Ludwig Kerstiens

Ludwig Kerstiens (born November 6, 1924 in Münster ; † August 14, 2011 ) was a German educational scientist , media educator and university professor .

Life

Ludwig Kerstiens grew up in his native Münster and was drafted into the Wehrmacht in October 1942 after graduating from high school. He was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1945. The Museum Foundation Post and Telecommunication is keeping a bundle of 260 letters from Kerstiens from 1942 to 1946 and a manuscript with memories of the war .

After returning to his homeland, Kerstiens studied philosophy, Latin and German at the University of Münster . In 1952 he was charged with a dissertation on the "Cognitio speculativa" before and at Aquinas Dr. phil. PhD. He entered the school service and was also active in teacher training.

In 1962, Kerstiens became a lecturer in general pedagogy at the newly founded University of Education Weingarten in Upper Swabia, where he became a professor in 1966. From 1968 to 1971 he was rector of the PH Weingarten, from 1971 to 1974 prorector.

With his book on "Film Education", published in 1961 and reissued several times, Kerstiens tried to give media education a theoretical foundation. The protection of minors was one of his main media educational concerns. In 1968 and 1976 he also published books on media didactics . In later work he increasingly turned to the theoretical foundation of educational goals and value-based education.
