Ludwig Klitzsch (born September 16, 1881 in Halle (Saale) ; † January 7, 1954 in Bad Wiessee ) was a German publicist and high manager in the film industry .

Life

Ludwig Klitzsch was a pioneer of the idea of bringing the as yet undeveloped film commercial advertising in Germany to an internationally competitive level. As director of the Leipziger Illustrirten Zeitung , which belongs to the publishing house of Johann Jakob Weber , he brought his ideas to the attention of the leaders of the German economy since at least 1910, as in 1912 in the Association of German Steel and Iron Manufacturers. His concept of a central propaganda organization was put into practice on November 19, 1916, when Klitzsch and Krupp manager Alfred Hugenberg founded the Deutsche Lichtbild-Gesellschaft . Klitzsch had drafted the company's articles of association and initially became a member of the Executive Committee, on February 9, 1917, he was also appointed Executive Director. Hugenberg, who had previously appointed Klitzsch to the board of directors of Deutsche Überseedienst GmbH , later made him general director of Scherl-Verlag .

After Hugenberg had acquired UFA in March 1927 , he also appointed Ludwig Klitzsch here as general director. Since he was commercially savvy, Klitzsch proved to be extremely successful in this position. He brought Erich Pommer , the former head of production at UFA, back from Hollywood , traveled to the USA himself to observe the production process there and to learn from it, pushed through the expensive switch to talkies at UFA and arranged for the Ufa teaching show to be set up , the first scientific film institute in Germany. After Ufa was converted into a state-owned company, Klitzsch held the position of director of the financial headquarters. In Leipzig he had been a member of the Apollo Masonic Lodge from 1912 .

During the time of National Socialism , Klitsch was a member of the National Socialist Academy for German Law Hans Franks , a member of the Reich Film Chamber , the Reich Chamber of Culture and the Reich Press Chamber . In addition, he was a member of the board of the Comradeship of German Artists . For the 25th anniversary of UFA, Joseph Goebbels awarded him the Goethe Medal for Art and Science .
