Ludwig Wedel
Ludwig Wedel (born April 9, 1909 in Griesheim , † March 30, 1993 in Groß-Umstadt ) was a Hessian politician ( SPD ) and a former member of the Hessian state parliament .
education and profession
After elementary school and business school, Ludwig Wedel attended the auditor's institute and did an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk . He then worked as an administrative clerk, union clerk, book auditor and assistant in tax matters. Eventually he became a tax syndicate of the former Chamber of Dentists.
politics
Ludwig Wedel had been a member of the SPD, SAJ and the trade unions since 1923 . On December 4, 1939, Ludwig Wedel applied for membership in the NSDAP . This was rejected. The reason given is: “There is reason to assume that Wedel is seeking membership in the party only for the purpose of obtaining business advantages and better economic advancement with it. Wedel is therefore not acceptable for the party. "
After the end of Nazism and World War II , he was 1946-1952 Honorary Alderman in Gross-Umstadt . Between 1952 and 1954 he was head of the city council . 1954 to 1969 he was mayor of Groß-Umstadt. Under his leadership, Groß-Umstadt's first town twinning with Saint-Péray in France was concluded in 1966 . His words when visiting the twin town in September 1966:
“Today we are citizens of France or Germany . Tomorrow we will be citizens of Europe , then citizens of the world . "
In 1946 he also became a member of the district committee and was second district deputy for four years. Until 1964 he was district chairman. In the state elections on November 23, 1958, he was the second social democrat from Umstadt to win a mandate in the Hessian state parliament and, thanks to further electoral victories on November 11, 1962 and November 6, 1966, was a member of the for twelve years from December 1, 1958 to November 30, 1970 4th, 5th and 6th Hessian Landtag. Ludwig Wedel was a member of the 3rd Federal Assembly in 1959 .
Honors
In Groß-Umstadt, the Ludwig Wedel Stadium is named after him and is home to the Groß-Umstadt game association .
