Ludwig Georg Carl Wilhelm von Baumbach-Ropperhausen (born October 8, 1783 in Romrod , † November 30, 1856 in Kassel ) was a politician from the Electorate of Hesse . Baumbach was government director in Hanau and in 1833 President of the Hessian Estates Assembly .

Life

family

It came from the house of Ropperhausen of the old Hessian noble family von Baumbach , which appeared for the first time in 1246 and from which numerous personalities of Hessian history emerged. His father Ernst Christian Friedrich von Baumbach (* 1745 in Marburg ; † December 7, 1795 in Darmstadt ), Lord of Ropperhausen , was Hesse-Darmstadt master hunter . He married Charlotte Dorothea Friederike von Canstein on October 15, 1774 in Kassel (born February 10, 1774 in Kassel; † 1794 in Darmstadt).

The couple had three daughters and three sons. Ludwig was the fifth child and the second born son. His older brother Hans Carl Friedrich (* 1781) died in April 1800 as a Hessian-Kassel lieutenant and his younger brother Ferdinand Ernst Wilhelm Ludwig (* June 25, 1786 in Ropperhausen; † September 18, 1861 in Ropperhausen) took over his father's office as chief hunter.

Professional background

Baumbach became government director in Hanau, where he used dictatorial means to restore peace and order in 1830 during the unrest as a result of the July Revolution and after the Hanau toll storm.

In the same year, until 1831, he became a member of the Electoral Hessian Estates Assembly, the constituent parliament of Electoral Hesse, as a representative of the knighthood of the Schwalm Current. From 1833 to 1835 he was also a member of the Hessian state assembly as a representative of the city of Hanau, in 1833 he became president of the state parliament.

Later he took over the management of the Landeskreditkasse and was appointed electoral state councilor and chamberlain for his services . He died on November 30, 1856, at the age of 73, in Kassel.

Marriage and offspring

Ludwig von Baumbach-Ropperhausen was married to Anna Maria Steinbach (* April 18, 1786, † September 27, 1868 in Kassel), a daughter of the secret cabinet secretary Heinrich Steinbach from the Electorate of Hesse.

The couple had four children, two daughters and two sons. The eldest daughter Natalie Sophie Karoline (born August 23, 1809 in Kassel; † June 3, 1840 in Kassel) married in 1831 the later lieutenant general and Minister of War Eduard von Haynau , who in 1842, after the untimely death of his wife, her younger sister Thekla ( * August 5, 1812 in Kassel; † October 24, 1882 in Kassel) married.

The eldest son Alexander Edmund Heinrich Ferdinand Gottlieb von Baumbach zu Ropperhausen became Foreign Minister of Kurhessen in the Ludwig Hassenpflug government . His younger brother Karl died just two years after he was born.
