Luigi Morleo

Luigi Morleo (born November 16, 1970 in Mesagne ( BR ), Italy ) is an Italian drummer and composer of modern music.

Life

Luigi Morleo has been teaching percussion at the Niccolo Piccinni Conservatory in Bari since 1994 , where he lives with his family. His son is the composer and musician Mattia Vlad Morleo .

Career

Luigi Morleo was percussionist with the Teatro Petruzzelli Orchestra in Bari from 1987 to 1991 and percussionist and timpanist with the orchestra of the government of the Bari Province from 1992 to 1994 . He is currently a timpanist with the Bari Concert Society and has played with them in Europe, Japan and China . In addition to his permanent employment, he took part as a soloist at festivals in Europe and the USA, including the Festival for New Sound Experiments Audio Box at RAI -Radio 1, the International Summer Theater Festival in Hamburg and the Lucerne Festival in Lucerne .

He played with the RAI Symphony Orchestra in Milan under the direction of Luciano Berio . Since 1998 he has been a guest composer at the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions at New York University . In April 2000 he performed twice with three of his students at the NYU Composers' Forum. In November 2001 he appeared as a soloist at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC 2001) in Nashville , Tennessee, performing his composition Le Rughe del Deserto . He is also a guest at the Conservatories in Geneva and Lyon and a member of the Associazione Percussionisti Italiani in Bolzano .

  • 2001: Third place in the composers' competition of the Percussive Arts Society , compositions for large ensembles (8–12 musicians), with Mucha Concert
  • 2002: Second place in the Premio di Composizione per Strumenti a Percussione "Il Timpano d'Oro"
  • 2002: Premio di Composizione “Musica e Ironia” from Tactus Fugit
