Luitpold Dussler

Luitpold Dussler (born July 16, 1895 in Munich ; † December 18, 1976 there ) was a German art historian .

Life

Dussler studied art history at the University of Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1923 under Heinrich Wölfflin with a thesis on Benedetto da Maiano . During the First World War he served as a soldier and then worked at the state museums and collections in Bavaria .

A grant from the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence led Dussler to Italy in the 1920s. In 1929 he was at the Munich Technical University habilitated . Five years later he was appointed associate professor there. Dussler was a member of the NSDAP .

In 1930/31 Dussler and other art historians participated in the allegations against the art historian August Liebmann Mayer , who was ousted from his office. Dussler was never held responsible for his denunciation. His act was concealed by those who knew about art history when he was appointed full professor at the Technical University of Munich in 1947. In 1965 he retired.

In his work Dussler dealt with the Renaissance in Italy . His best-known works include a critical catalog raisonné by Raphael and a Michelangelo bibliography.
