It has existed since 1890 and was called Evangelisches Krankenhaus Bünde until 1990. The Association of Evangelical Hospital in Bünde was granted the rights of a legal person by Kaiser Wilhelm II on December 4, 1899 by means of a sovereign ordinance .
With around 700 employees and 345 beds, it supplies around 12,000 inpatients and 20,000 outpatients a year. A nursing school has belonged to the house since 1940, and since 2007 the Lukas Hospital in Bünde has been an academic teaching hospital of the Hanover Medical School .
General
The Lukas Hospital, in cooperation with the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia in Bad Oeynhausen, takes on 25 trainees in the field of care every year. It offers students in their practical year training in the subjects of internal medicine, surgery (general and trauma surgery), anesthesiology and intensive care medicine, radiology and gynecology.
The “Go Park” therapy garden set up by the Lukas Hospital in 2005 is intended to help patients with walking disabilities to regain confidence in everyday life. The garden covers an area of 1,200 m² with different surfaces such as lawn, bark mulch or paving stones. In the middle of the area there is a practice car, which can be used to practice getting in and out.
history
In 1874 there was talk of building a hospital and infirmary in Bünde for the first time. The planning began in 1886, with donations of 20,000 marks that were sufficient for the construction of the hospital. The foundation stone was laid on June 7, 1889, and the hospital was inaugurated on October 21, 1890. On the same day the first patient, a Tippel brother from Denmark, was admitted. At that time the hospital was located on Hindenburgstrasse with nine beds and employed a volunteer doctor, a nurse and a housemaid.
11 years later, in 1901, the hospital building was renovated and enlarged to 67 beds. By 1936 it was expanded three times to 137 beds. On April 1, 1940, the nursing school with 40 places was opened. In 1942 the hospital acquired the former Villa Bastert at Hindenburgstrasse 52, which was used as a doctor's apartment until April 1954 and then as a nurses' home.
In 1957 the hospital was expanded again with a three-storey bed wing to 245 beds, and the following year a staff residence was built next to Villa Bastert. A new nurses' home at Brunnenallee 38 offered space for 96 nurses and the nursing school from 1964.
1966–68 the old hospital was torn down and then rebuilt with a capacity of 350 beds. In 1969 the bed wing was put into operation, and ten new school places were created at the nursing school. The second construction phase followed in 1973, and the hospital now offered space for 384 patients.
In the year of its 100th anniversary in 1990, the Evangelical Hospital Bünde was given its new name, Lukas Hospital Bünde.
