Lukas B. Suter

Lukas B. Suter (born November 4, 1957 in Zurich ) is a Swiss playwright , radio play author , theater director and screenwriter .

Life

Suter studied art history for a few semesters in Zurich, after which he was assistant director in Basel and Zurich. From 1980 to 1983 he stayed in Cologne and Bochum , then he went to Berlin .

His breakthrough came in 1984 with his debut piece Schreber's Garden . Peter Schweiger staged the world premiere at the Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich , whereupon Suter was awarded the Mülheim Dramatist Prize. Also in 1984 was the world premiere of Spelterini lifts off at the Schillertheater Berlin , directed by Klaus Engeroff , a play about the balloonist Eduard Spelterini , which was also released as a radio play . In 1985 Suter himself staged the Swiss premiere at the Theater am Neumarkt.

This was followed by the pieces Memories of S. (first performance 1988, Theater Der Kreis Wien, director: Suter), Kreuz und Quer (1988, first performance 1992), Insel mit Schiffwüchigen (first performance 1990, Renaissance-Theater Berlin , director: Suter), Die Signature (first performance 1993, Landestheater Tübingen, director: Suter together with Sandra Markus), Sushi (1994) and Althusser or not (1994). The latter work, premiered in 1994 at the Landestheater Tübingen under the direction of Manfred Weber, is based on the autobiographical writings of Louis Althusser , who strangled his wife in 1980 in a state of loss of consciousness.

Also in 1994 he directed Richard III with Sandra Markus . at the State Theater Tübingen. In 1995 his work Auf Tauchstation was published (world premiere on May 30, 2000 at the Stadttheater Mülheim an der Ruhr as a special production of the 25th Mülheimer Theatertage , directed by Thirza Bruncken ).

Suter contributed to the scripts for the Swiss film Usfahrt - Joy Ride , which appeared in 2000, and for the 2006 film Vitus .
