history

The company was founded in 1880 in the Bavarian court under the name Militzer & Münch by Richard Militzer and Werner Münch as freight forwarders for the Royal Bavarian State Railway . While the activities were continuously expanded, the company founded another five branches in Bavaria between 1898 and 1920. Even today, Militzer & Münch Germany is represented nationwide with its own branches and offers truck land transport, air and sea freight as well as rail and project logistics.

In the 1930s, Militzer & Münch took over the freight agency of important sea shipping companies and the then still young airlines. In 1949 Militzer & Münch was appointed official IATA agent. It then continues with the establishment of branches that were decisive for the expansion of the air and sea freight business, such as B. the branch in Hamburg and the 1962 opened first air freight center at Frankfurt airport.

At the beginning of the 1960s, M&M, which is now active in the international freight forwarding business, began to develop goods traffic to Iran . There, in 1961, private Iranian investors founded the PTB Perse International Forwarding Company . The partnership-based business relationship with this will play an important role in the later course of M & M's corporate history.

In 1970 M&M set up its first foreign subsidiary in Greece. In the following years, further subsidiaries followed in France (1976), in Switzerland (1980), in Italy and in Turkey (both 1985). In 1986, M&M Militzer & Münch International Holding AG was founded in St. Gallen as the parent company and the individual national companies were incorporated under its roof.

Due to the business activities in traffic between Europe and Iran, M&M and the cooperation partner PTB moved closer together in the course of the 1980s. Yousef Sherkati, a specialist in the forwarding and logistics sector who came from an Iranian entrepreneurial family and who began his professional career in the family company, PTB Perse International Forwarding Company, played an important role in the future expansion. After Sharkati had already been working as a specialist in Iran traffic for M&M in Europe in the 1970s, he took over the management of M&M Militzer & Münch AG in St. Gallen for two years in 1988. In 1989 Sherkati became a member of the board of directors of M&M Militzer & Münch International Holding and, from 1994, managing director of the entire M&M group.

With the political and economic opening of Eastern Europe and the dissolution of the former Soviet Union , M&M founded new subsidiaries from 1991 in Eastern Europe and the independent states of the former Soviet Union. Outside of these regions, further subsidiaries were founded in Morocco, Tunisia and China in the 1990s.

In 2001, M&M Militzer & Münch, under the management of Yousef Sherkati, was integrated into the St. Gallen-based TransInvest group, which is also active in the transport and logistics sector and whose main owners are Sherkati, as an independent subsidiary on the market.
