Máximo Augusto José del Carmen Etchecopar (born February 19, 1912 in San Miguel de Tucumán , † March 2002 ) was an Argentine diplomat and Catholic writer.

Life

Máximo Augusto Etchecopar was born to Dolores Paz and Máximo Etchecopar. He was married to Josefina Castro Soto and the marriage resulted in daughter Marta Dolores. Etchecopar graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires with a degree in law .

He was involved in the Catholic Action , which also included Leopoldo Marechal and Francisco Luis Bernárdez. He published “ José Ortega y Gasset , nuestro amigo” in Historia de una afición a leer, Editorial Universitaria de Buenos Aires, and was an ally of Rodolfo Irarasta and Carlos Ibarguren. He wrote in newspapers such as Sol y Luna and Nueva Politica , defending the oligarchy and praising Juan Manuel de Rosas . His essays also appeared in Balcón , Julio Meinvielle's magazine . In 1942 he was a protagonist of the Congresa de la Recuperación Nacional in Buenos Aires, a failed attempt to unite the currents of nationalist politics.

Subsequently he was an ally of Mario Amadeo, under whose influence he became a supporter of Arturo Frondizi .

From 1947 to 1948 he had exequatur as consul general in Cairo . In 1949 he was Consul General in London . From 1949 to 1951 and 1955 he was ambassador to the Holy See , on which Pius XII. who excommunicated Juan Perón in June 1955 . From 1958 to 1960 he was ambassador to Stockholm . From 1960 to 1961 he was ambassador in Lima . In 1962 he was ambassador to Mexico City . From 1966 to 1969 he headed the Instituto del Servicio Exterior de la Nación .

From 1969 to May 13, 1971 he was ambassador to Bogotá .

From May 13, 1971 to July 5, 1973 he was ambassador in Bern .
