The Mönnigsee , also Mönningsee , is an oval, natural lake about one hectare in size in the south-eastern part of the municipality of Am Mellensee in the Brandenburg district of Teltow-Fläming in Germany .

location

The Mönnigsee is located three kilometers south-southeast of Sperenberg on the boundary of the Sperenberg district. It is just over 300 m long in north-south direction and around 250 m wide in east-west direction.

history

The lake was first mentioned in a document in 1541 as “the little munch”. In 1655 it is listed as "the monk's lake" or "Daß Mönch Seeichen". The spelling “Moench-See” is documented for 1772, in the Schmettauschen map series from 1767 to 1787 it is called “Der München See”. In the Urmes table sheet 1: 25000 Nr.3846 Wünsdorf, which was drawn in 1841, the lake is again recorded as “Mönchs See”. The name of the Mönninghausen residential area , which was created around 1850, shows that the lake was then called Mönnigsee in dialect at that time (Mönninghausen was first mentioned in 1858 as Mönnighausen). The name could indicate that the Zinna monastery once had ownership rights here. This is not documented, but the Zinna monastery had verifiable title in the nearby town of Dümde .

Hydrography

The lake has a small natural, spring-fed, now straightened, little water-bearing tributary from the south. It drains via an equally small river at the northern end of the lake to Neuendorfer See . It is, of course, eutrophic, the banks silt up; to the south there are bog formations and wet meadows.

Mönnigsee nature reserve

The only about one hectare Mönnigsee is eponymous for the 36-hectare nature reserve , the Mönnigsee mainly from the south adjoining the lake bog formations with wet meadows , Hochstaudenfluren there and willow bushes.
