When MAN TGE is one on the VW Crafter II (7C0) based vans from the Volkswagen Group, which under the group brand MAN is sold. Like the Crafter, it has been manufactured at the Września plant in Poland since April 2017 . MAN presented it at the IAA for Commercial Vehicles 2016 in Hanover.

Differences to the VW Crafter

External differences

The TGE differs only slightly from the VW Crafter II ( badge engineering ). The radiator grille has a wide instead of two cross struts, the rear wing door has a MAN logo instead of the VW logo and the type designation is on the front fenders. The manufacturer's word mark is on the right rear door. There is also a MAN logo on the steering wheel cover.

Sales structure and maintenance

The TGE is not sold through the branches, but rather sales are handled by MAN sales representatives. The MAN workshop network is responsible for maintenance and repairs.

drive

Diesel engines

Be incorporated Turbo Diesel engines from the series " EA288 utility" with 2.0 liters and common rail direct injection. The four power levels are 75 kW, 90 kW (available later), 103 kW and 130 kW. The power can be found (according to the usual MAN scheme) converted to horsepower in the model name. The engines are installed in the front .

Electric motor

The purely electrically powered MAN eTGE was presented in March 2018 and should go into series production from July 2018. Up to 1700 kilograms can be loaded. The maximum output of its permanently excited synchronous motor is 100 kW, the maximum torque over the entire speed range is 290 Nm. The top speed is limited to 90 km / h, the purchase price is around 69,500 euros (as of 2018).

Power transmission (diesel engine)

Most of the engines are connected to a manual six-speed gearbox as standard and drive the front wheels . Certain models are also available with an eight -speed torque converter automatic transmission . From 90 kW there are also versions with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive. The engine is installed transversely to the direction of travel on versions with front-wheel and four-wheel drive, and lengthwise on versions with rear-wheel drive.

Bus variant

Although there is not yet a series version of a special bus version, a nine-seat special version was set up by a MAN department specializing in bus conversions. This has individual seats in the passenger compartment that can be moved on rails. The sliding side door is electrically operated.

Offroad conversion kit from Seikel

Seikel, a company that carries out off-road conversions, produces a retrofit package to increase the off-road mobility of the TGE 3.140 4 × 4 or the TGE 3.180 4 × 4 consisting of

  • Lifting gear
  • Off-road tires with the dimensions 255/55 R 18
  • Component protection made of protective plates for
    • the engine
    • the fuel tank
    • the rear axle differential
    • the rear shock absorbers
  • Rocker panels (for the standard wheelbase)
  • Spacers for the leaf spring on the rear axle
  • modified front shock absorbers

The elevation is approx. 50 millimeters, 30 millimeters can be traced back to the modified chassis and 20 millimeters to the tires.

Motorhome prototypes

Just like the bus variant, two prototypes for using the TGE as a mobile home were built by the department specializing in bus conversions. Both have a sticker with "zebra stripes" on the sheet metal panels, are driven by bi-turbo diesel engines with 130 kW and are based on standard wheelbase versions with a high roof. Prototype 1 contains removable furniture and prototype 2 a permanently installed one. A public presentation was planned for the Caravan, Motor und Touristik 2018 in Stuttgart .

Chassis and wheels

The front wheels are individually suspended from MacPherson struts and wishbones , while the rear of the TGE has a rigid axle on longitudinal leaf springs . The standard tires of size 205/75 R 16 and are mounted on 6.5 J × 16 steel wheels.

Fuel system

The fuel tank holds 75 liters. The tank for the " AdBlue " urea solution required for exhaust gas aftertreatment has a capacity of 18 liters.

Occupant safety systems

Passive safety

There is only one airbag for the driver in the vehicle as standard . Additional airbags are available in packages at a surcharge.

Active security

Anti-lock braking system and vehicle dynamics control (electronic stability program; ESP) are standard. There are also other driver assistance systems that are designed to increase active safety. Light-emitting diode headlights are also available at an extra charge.
