The United Nations observer mission in Angola , MONUA for short (from the French Mission d'Observation des Nations Unies en Angola ) was based on UN resolution 1118 of June 30, 1997 and took place in Angola from July 1, 1997 to February 26, 1999 instead of.

It was the successor to the UNAVEM III mission. The headquarters of the mission was in Luanda .

The mission was led by Issa BY Diallo from Guinea in the role of Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of the Mission, supported by Major General Seth Kofi Obeng from Ghana , who was responsible for the deployment of the armed forces . 240 mission members were deployed in this uniformed operation, including 12 military observers and 6 civilian police observers , supported by a civilian staff made up of international and local employees. MONUA troop contributors were Egypt , Bangladesh , Bolivia , Brazil , Ghana, India , Jordan , Pakistan , Poland , Portugal , Romania , Russia , Zambia , Senegal , Zimbabwe and Uruguay . 14 MONUA members were killed during the operation.
