Companies

Roland Mayer was involved in the development of the five-cylinder turbo engine for the Sport quattro Group B racing car as an engineer at Audi in the 1980s . In 1990 he founded his own company, which specializes in modified engine control units. Since the company was founded, MTM has mainly focused on the Audi brand. It now also offers products for the other VW brands Volkswagen , Seat , Škoda , Lamborghini and Bentley .

MTM has a worldwide dealer network of almost 150 dealers in 49 countries. The company is a member of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the Association of Automobile Tuners (VDAT). Vehicles and products

MTM Audi A8 in high gloss finish

In autumn 1992, the company installed a 315 kW five-cylinder turbo engine in an Audi S2 . A special feature of the vehicle called "MTM Audi S2 RSR Clubsport" was that the wider tires were used on the front axle due to the design-related top-heaviness, namely 10-inch wheels at the front and 8.5-inch wheels at the rear. Since the vehicle was equipped with all-wheel drive as standard, attention had to be paid to the rolling circumference of the tires in order not to overload the center differential , so that the tire format selected was 265/35/17 at the front and 235/40/17 at the rear. These unusual tires resulted in significantly improved driving characteristics compared to vehicles with symmetrical tires. In a test by sport auto magazine at the Hockenheimring , the MTM Audi S2 Clubsport with the unusual wheel combination was 3 seconds faster per lap than with "normal" 235/40/17 tires.

The external changes to the vehicles are mostly subtle, as the MTM company, as the interior T suggests, sees itself more as a vehicle upgrade in the technical sense. An exception to this were the models of the Audi A8 , type D2 and D3, which were polished to a high gloss in an elaborate process .

Further in-house developments are the T-types based on the VW T5 . The small models T300 with 231 kW and T400 with 265 kW have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine. The most powerful expansion stage is the T500 with 348 kW. Unlike the two smaller models, it has a five-cylinder turbo engine with a displacement of 2.5 l.

MTM also manufactures the MTM S8 Talladega based on the Audi A8 D4 / 4H. The Audi 4.0 TFIS biturbo engine from the S8 facelift originally had an output of 382 kW, but its output was increased to 531 kW with two special turbochargers. The series, limited to 25 copies, is expected to be sold from around 192,000 euros.

Speed records

MTM Bimoto

MTM became known for its high-speed test drives. For its projects, the company uses the “Bimoto”, which is based on the Audi TT and is equipped with two 1.8-liter four-cylinder turbo engines from Volkswagen. They each produce 375 kW (510 hp), which means that a maximum output of 750 kW is achieved. The power is transmitted to both axles via two six-speed transmissions. In 2003, the Bimoto was measured during a test drive by testers at auto motor und sport in Nardò at a top speed of 374 km / h and achieved the highest speed ever recorded by the trade magazine. During a test drive initiated by Auto Bild in 2007, the Bimoto reached a top speed of 390.6 km / h in Nardò. In the same year test drives in Papenburg reached 393.62 km / h. The goal is to drive 400 km / h. The Bimoto is sold in a small series of ten vehicles at a price of 600,000 euros each.

In September 2009, an Audi RS6 Avant modified by MTM was measured during test drives by auto motor und sport at a speed of 344.2 km / h. The vehicle officially holds the world record for the fastest station wagon .
