The Maßholderbach is an almost five kilometer long stream running in a roughly south-westerly direction in the urban area of Öhringen in Hohenlohekreis in northern Baden-Württemberg . With its Langwiesenbächle, which is longer on the right, the upper course on the left, it is almost six kilometers long. It flows into the lower Ohrn from the right a little below the closed urban settlement area of Öhringen .

Surname

At least in the Büttelbronn district of Öhringen, the stream is called Masselbach or perhaps Maßelbach .

geography

course

The Maßholderbach begins after the official topographic maps its course to about 295  m above sea level. NHN and about 0.4 km south of the residential area Schönau von Zweiflingen already on the Öhringer district at a forest peak on the Gewann Strüt . In the valley hollow, which continues uphill, the depth of which follows the edge of the forest, is about 0.4 km further up and at about 305  m above sea level. NHN on the eastern edge of Schönau is a pond only 0.1 hectare in size on the mountain side of a farm road from the village into the forest. The local sewage treatment plant is on the valley side of the path. Depending on whether their wastewater initially drains away here or openly, this would be the real origin of the creek, which was initially and inconsistently flowing.

The Maßholderbach initially flows south-southwest, from the top of the forest 1.1 km between fields, then partly accompanied by a strip of green, to the Öhringen hamlet of Ober Maßholderbach, where it takes up its longer and more catchable right upper course Langenwiesbächle. This is being built to the west of the Schönau residential area and the associated village of Friedrichsruhe von Zweiflingen on the local golf course a pond. In this terrain it initially runs southwest, crosses another pond, picks up the runoff from other nearby ponds and then turns left onto the south run between fields, and after another left turn, finally 2.0 km after its origin in Ober Maßholderbach to unite the named upper course.

The Maßholderbach now flows southwards for a long time on its middle course to Ober Maßholderbach in a narrow floodplain. In contrast to the two almost bare upper course trenches on the bank, a gallery of trees and bushes accompanies him from here. A little after the hamlet, the more than one kilometer long stream flows out of the Hungerwiesen , the first and the largest catchment area of four tributaries from all of the east. At the right foot of the slope, he is already accompanied by the K 2332 district road that begins in Ober Maßholderbach in the direction of Öhringen. Between the inflow from the Hungerwiesen and the next side stream, called the Gießgraben, the gallery even widens to a small wood, initially on the nearby embankment on the left, and later in the floodplain on the left. The approximately one and a half kilometer long pouring ditch as well as the two following tributaries, which are less than a kilometer long, are long ditches in a natural hollow, accompanied by dirt roads. One flows into Untermaßholderbach , after which the near-natural section of the Maßholderbach begins, on which it initially runs further south in a gently meandering course in its half- to three-meter-wide bed and soon takes up the missing of its four tributaries.

Less than half a kilometer down from Untermaßholderbach, the creek spans the Maßholderbachtalbrücke of the A 6 . There the valley and the stream bend in a west-southwest direction. He is now accompanied by the northernmost rows of houses in the closed settlement area of the city of Öhringen for the last two kilometers on the left ridge, while the motorway runs parallel to the right on the lower slope. On the otherwise unpopulated valley floor, only an allotment area and a school border the shore. Finally, after 4.9 km from its source at the top of the forest and about 78 meters lower, it flows out at about 217  m above sea level. NHN a little downhill from the Weidenmühle immediately after Öhringen and only a few steps before the Ohrntalbrücke of the motorway over this river from the right into the lower Ohrn ; Less than a hundred meters downstream, its last major tributary, Westernbach, flows into it .

The mean bottom slope of the Maßlensbach is around 16 ‰.

Catchment area

The Maßholderbach drains an area of 8.6 km² north of the city of Öhringen, which , in terms of natural space , is included in the sub-area of the Öhringer Plain of the Hohenloher and Haller Plains . Its up to 334.9  m above sea level. It reaches the greatest heights on the northern edge of the road between the villages of Friedrichsruhe and Pfahlbach in the municipality of Zweiflingen .

The following neighboring streams compete in turn:

  • In the north, the Pfahlbach runs westwards to the Kocher just before the mouth of the Ohrn .
  • To the north-east, the Hirschbach flows little beyond the watershed to the Sall , a tributary of the Kocher higher up.
  • Behind the eastern border, the Weinsbach drains the area adjacent to the Epbach , the next major tributary of the Ohrn above the Maßholderbach.
  • This Epbach itself competes for the southeast .
  • In the south, the Ohrn flows westwards, with only the small right tributary Ströllerbach.
  • To the west the Westernbach, which flows less than 100 meters after the Maßholderbach, also drains from the right to the Ohrn.

From a geological point of view, the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt Formation ) of the Unterkeuper , in which the brook also originates, is located in the largest part of the catchment area . On the ridges of the accompanying hills, on the right quite early, on the left only from the Talknick to Untermaßholderbach, the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ) of the Mittelkeuper lies above in islands . Especially on the eastern edge and in the southern catchment area, these tertiary layers are still largely covered by loess sediments from Quaternary deposits. The stream flows into the wide Ohrntalaue, which is also covered by Quaternary flood sediment. From Ober Maßholderbach there are some rather short fault lines in the valley and on the edge of the hills, in a Hercynian direction.

The catchment area is a hilly, largely open landscape with less than 0.5 km² of forest, which is almost entirely on the north-eastern edge. With the exception of a 0.7 km² golf course in the far north near Friedrichsruhe, it is used for agriculture almost everywhere. Settlement is low and includes Friedrichsruh with the structurally connected residential area Schönau on the north-northeast edge, both of which belong to the municipality of Zweiflingen ; the hamlets of Ober- and Untermaßholderbach on the upper and middle runs as well as the residential areas Buschfeld , Platzfeld and Weidenhof east of the valley basin, all in the Büttelbronn district marking of Öhringen; the courtyard in the Eckartsweiler submarket; in addition, a narrow strip on the northern edge of the central Öhringen urban development in the south.

Southwest of Ober Maßholderbach, the route of the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes on the Gewann Pfahläcker, coming from the north-northeast, enters the catchment area and crosses the Bachtal, for example at the Maßholderbachtalbrücke of the federal motorway 6 down from Untermaßholderbach, in order to then leave the catchment area through the central Öhringen settlement area south-southeast.

Other evidence

  1. The name Masselbach is mentioned in the Büttelbronn local council minutes of January 15, 2018 on the local part website www.buettelbronn.de; the chapter on Büttelbronn the description of Oberamts Oehringen of 1865, however, concludes with the words on the two Talweiler top and Untermaßlensbach: "Both places are called, Maßelbach '." So possibly containing Ortschaftsrat protocol, an incorrect spelling in a previously-intentioned Maßelbach (with long vowel in the first syllable), which would also be better suited to the sound level expressed in the official name Maßholderbach .
