Machesney Park is a municipality in Winnebago County in northern US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . Machesney Park was founded in 1981 and had a population of 20,759 in 2000. By 2010 the number had increased to 23,499.

Machesney Park is located on the east bank of the Rock River , north of Loves Park in northern Illinois at 42 ° 21'18 "north latitude and 89 ° 2'27 west longitude. The village covers an area of 32.1 km² (12.4 mi²) of which approximately 81 km² (31.1 mi²) is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) is water.
Illinois State Route 251 runs to the west and State Route 173 to the north .
Demographic data
In the official census from 2010 , a population of 23,499 people in 9,351 households was determined. The population density was 190.1 people per km² (758 / mi²). There are pretty much the same number of women as there are men, 24.3% of the population was under 18 years of age. In the group of over 18-year-olds, the largest group, with 22.83%, came from those between 35 and 49.
The population was 91.47% white , 2.83% African American , 0.24% American Indian , 1.55% Asian , 0.03% Australian and 1.63% other groups. About 2.25% said they came from at least two of these groups, with Hispanics making up 4.99% of the population.
The median income at the 2000 census was $ 48,315 and that of families was $ 53,788. The income of around 3.2% of all families and 5.3% of the total population was below the poverty line .
history
The name Machesney Park has its roots in Machesney Airport which was founded in 1927 by Fred Machesney. This was the central airport of the Rockford Region until the Greater Rockford Airport / Chicago Rockford International Airport was built in 1950. This is where the Machesney Mall is today.
In a referendum in 1981, Machesney Park's independence from Loves Park was determined. The current mayor of the village is Tom Strickland.

Machesney Park is home to Harlem High School , which is part of Harlem School District 122 . This district provides schools for the communities of Machesney Park, Loves Park, and southern Roscoe .
