Madelaine "Madde" Edlund (born September 15, 1985 in Jönköping ) is a former Swedish soccer player . The striker played for the Swedish national team from 2007 to 2012 .

Athletic career

Edlund started playing football at Morön BK . 2001 the offensive player Sunnanå SK joined. The Skellefteå club had moved up to Damallsvenskan . She soon established herself in the club’s main line-up and was appointed to the Swedish U-23 team in 2005, having previously played for several national youth teams . Both in the selection and in the club, she was part of the regular formation.

In November 2006 Umeå IK announced the commitment of Edlund from the 2007 season . In the summer she reached the final of the 2006/07 UEFA Women's Cup with the team , which was lost in two games against Arsenal LFC . It was only used in the 1-0 defeat in the first leg. In her debut season for the new club, she scored twelve goals in Damallsvenskan and was the club's second best goalscorer behind Marta . With that she helped the club to defend the championship title. At the same time, she played her way into the senior national team. National coach Thomas Dennerby nominated her for the 2007 World Cup . In the preparatory game on August 30 of that year, she made her debut against Denmark in the national jersey, but was not used in the course of the tournament.

Also in the following season Edlund reached the finals of the UEFA Women's Cup with her club . Although it was used in both finals this time, it was again not enough to win the title against 1. FFC Frankfurt . Again she was considered as a substitute in the squad for a major tournament and was part of the squad for the 2008 Olympic Games , but was again not used in the course of the tournament. After all, she distinguished herself again as a regular goalscorer in the 2008 Damallsvenskan season with 18 goals this season. Her team succeeded in winning the Crown Princess Victorias Cup again at the end of the season .

She was also nominated for the 2011 World Cup . In the first group game against Colombia , she was substituted on in the 81st minute. After that, it was initially not used again. In the quarter-finals, where they met Australia , she was substituted on again in the 83rd minute when the score was 3-1. With the 3-1 victory both the semi-finals against Japan and the qualification for the Olympic Games in London were reached . On July 16, 2011, she and the team won the game for third place in the 2-1 victory over France .

She was in the Swedish squad for the 2012 Olympic Games , but only made a brief appearance in the lost quarter-final game against France.

At the end of 2014 Edlund announced her retirement from professional football.
