Magdalena Schrefel

Magdalena Schrefel (* 1984 in Korneuburg near Vienna ) is an Austrian playwright . She lives alternately in Vienna and Berlin .

Youth and education

Magdalena Schrefel worked after school through the European Voluntary Service in Vukovar ( Croatia ). From 2006 to 2007 she went to Gothenburg ( Sweden ) to complete an apprenticeship in International Project Management in NGOs and Social Movements .

Schrefel then studied European ethnology at the University of Vienna . From 2011 to 2015 she studied literary writing at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig , which she completed with a bachelor's degree.

Writer

With the play Die Bergung der Landschaft , Magdalena Schrefel was invited to the Heidelberg Stückemarkt in 2014 and placed on the shortlist of the Stückemarkt at the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2017 . The Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) in co-production with the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) produced the piece in 2019 as a radio play .

Schrefel wins the Kleist Prize with the piece Ein Berg, many . After the award ceremony at the opening of the Kleist Festival in Frankfurt (Oder) on September 1, 2020, the play is to be premiered at the Leipzig Theater.

In 2017 Magdalena Schrefel received the AK Literature Prize. In 2019 she was already on the jury of experts to vote on winners.
