Magnus Wolff Eikrem (born August 8, 1990 in Molde ) is a Norwegian football player . The central midfielder currently plays for the Swedish first division team Malmö FF and for the Norwegian national team . He is the son of the former Norwegian soccer player Knut Hallvard Eikrem .

Career

society

Eikrem started playing football in his hometown as a 12-year-old with Molde FK . After he auditioned at Ole Gunnar Solskjær's football school , English scouts noticed him. Ultimately, the central midfielder decided to accept Manchester United's offer . In 2006 he switched to his youth department, but signed a professional contract there on his 16th birthday. For the first team of Manchester United, however, he never played a league game, only in friendly matches, as well as in the cup game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 22, 2009, he was used.

In January 2011 Eikrem moved to his hometown club Molde FK. There he made his debut for the first team on matchday one in the 3-0 defeat against Sarpsborg 08 FF . Although the first game was still lost, Eikrem made 28 appearances this season significantly in the fact that Molde was able to become Norwegian football champions for the first time in the club's history in 2011 . The following season, in which Molde was able to defend his title, Eikrem led his team on the first day of the game in a 2-1 win against Strømsgodset IF as captain. Due to winning the 2011 championship, Molde was able to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in 2012 . After the success against FK Ventspils , Eikrem failed with Molde in the third qualifying round against FC Basel .

In July 2013, Eikrem moved to the Dutch first division club SC Heerenveen for a transfer fee of 1.2 million euros . He only made 16 appearances there and moved to Cardiff City for 2.5 million euros during the winter break. There he made his debut on January 11, 2014 in the 2-0 home loss to West Ham United , when he came on for Gary Medel in the 66th minute . After only eight more missions and the change of coach to Russell Slade, who no longer planned with Eikrem, his contract with Cardiff City was terminated by mutual agreement.

In January 2015 he moved to the Allsvenskan for the Swedish first division team Malmö FF . In his first competitive game for Malmö, in the 3-0 victory in the cup against Assyriska Föreningen , Eikrem scored a goal and prepared the other two. On September 30, 2015, he made his Champions League debut against Real Madrid . In Malmö he became Swedish champion in 2016 and 2017. At the beginning, Eikrem's game shares decreased more and more over the years, in 2017 he mostly only came to short appearances and so his contract, which expired at the end of the season, was no longer extended. The midfielder then joined the Seattle Sounders in January 2018 . Although he was used there regularly. Nevertheless, the club parted ways with Eikrem in July 2018. He then rejoined his youth club Molde FK. There he immediately became a regular player again and also acted as captain in some games. Often used in attacking midfield, Eikrem also scored more goals.

National team

On July 27, 2005 Eikrem made his debut in the U-15 national team of Norway. He subsequently played for every Norwegian national team with the exception of the U-20s. For the Norwegian U-21 , he made his debut on November 17, 2010 in the 0-1 defeat against Greece ; he scored his first goal in a 2-1 win in the U-21 European Championship qualifier against Iceland . With the Norwegian U-21 he played the U-21 European Championship in 2013 in Israel, where he and his team only failed in the semifinals with 0: 3 against eventual European champions Spain . On January 15, 2012, he made his debut for the Norwegian national team in the 1-1 draw in the friendly against Denmark , when he came on in the 75th minute for Markus Henriksen . Another 16 international caps followed, but Eikrem could not develop into a regular player. Eikrem played his last international match in the 1-0 defeat against Belarus on August 31, 2016.
