Mahamud Ali Jussuf (also: Mahamoud Ali Youssouf , Somali Maxamuud Cali Yuusuf , Arabic محمود علي يوسف) is a diplomat and politician from Djibouti .

biography

Yusuf entered the diplomatic service of his home country and was last deployed there as ambassador to Egypt . On July 4, 2001, he became Minister Delegate to the Foreign Minister with responsibility for international cooperation. In this role, he criticized the United States , which despite Djibouti's contribution to the fight against international terror , had made only scant financial contributions to the country immediately after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . In particular, he pointed out the “urgent need” for food, schools, roads and health facilities.

As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he was then appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Parliamentary Relations in Prime Minister Dileita Mohamed Dileita's cabinet on May 22, 2005 .

In this capacity, he was also chairman of the 129th Ordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Arab League in 2008 . In an interview with the New York Times in May 2008, he underlined the economic opportunities Djibouti had and the hopes that it could develop economically similar to the United Arab Emirates because Djibouti is a “small country with a large port” and “even better than Dubai located ".

During a visit by Federal Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung in December 2008 to see the frigate “Karlsruhe” farewell , Jussuf saw the growing importance of his country in the increasing international activities in the Gulf of Aden , but he was concerned about the increase in piracy , which was also increasing could affect the port and trade of Djibouti.
