history
The first known documentary mention of Maibach comes from July 27, 791 in relation to a donation of the place to the Fulda monastery . the place name is derived from the Old High German "matta" (mat, meadow) or from the Middle High German "mad" (mowing, hay).
The parish of the place is first attested for the year 1307; at that time it belonged to the Würzburg cathedral chapter. The time when the fortified church of St. Kilian was built is unknown. Today's St. Kilian's Church was built between 1613 and 1613 .
Initially, the place belonged to the office and Centgericht Ebenhausen. In 1353 it was sold to the Würzburg monastery . Over time, the place was owned by the Würzburg bishopric and cathedral chapter, the Haug monastery in Würzburg, the Counts of Henneberg and the Lords of Heßberg and von Reinstein.
During the peasant revolt of 1525 , the Second Margrave War and the Thirty Years' War , Maibach was the target of serious looting and destruction.
On July 1, 1971, Maibach became a district of Poppenhausen as part of the municipal reform.
