Bad Maiernigg

The lido is still in the municipality of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee . It is used by many guests from the wider area. A cycle path also leads to this green area on the southern shore of the lake. The operator is originally the Klagenfurter Stadtwerke , but it is currently leased from Zeppitz.

Gustav Mahler composing house

The building was built in 1900 for Gustav Mahler above the Wörthersee-Süduferstraße in the middle of the forest as a simple one-room house with a gable roof. Mahler completed the 4th symphony there by 1907 and composed the 5th, 6th and 7th in full. He composed part of the 8th (Symphony of a Thousand) there. It is open to the public from Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May 1st to October 31st and is looked after by Pierre Velik.

The footpath to this gem leads from the parking lot of the Maiernigg lido via a well-signposted forest path. The supervisor of the house plays works by Gustav Mahler and comments on the exhibited documents, photos, books and CDs from Mahler's life. The cultural department of the city of Klagenfurt is the operator of the exhibition about Mahler's summer stays in Maiernigg from 1900 to 1907.

Villa Schwarzenfels

Villa Schwarzenfels in Maiernigg

The Viennese architect Friedrich Theuer built the Villa Schwarzenfels in 1893/1894 as his holiday villa. He also designed the designs for Gustav Mahler's villa in Maiernigg.

The building stands in a dominant position on a bastion-like terrace. It represents a concise example of a late historical holiday villa in the style of the old German direction and is a two-storey building, consisting of two nested structures. The veranda on the west front with the sun terrace above shows the form elements typical of late historicism. The garden pavilion, in a mixed construction with a steep conical roof, fireplace and remarkable wrought iron work in the northwest corner of the crenellated retaining wall, is part of the complex and contributes to the overall romantic effect.

The white tower

The White Tower on the Black Rock.

The "White Tower on the Black Rock" is a former observatory. In the 1920s, it was an attraction of the small holiday resort. It fell into disrepair and burned down in 1960. His remains are near the "Gustav Mahler's composing house".
